If you or someone you know qualify for free or subsidised local authority organised care you can access Direct Payments (DP's). DP's are a way of taking control of your own care needs and giving you greater choice and freedom to access the support you require.
By receiving payments direct from your local authority this enables you to choose and arrange your own care services that are best for you.
Of course there would be a number of differences. For example you would have to open a bank account specifically to receive the payments as well as audit how much and what you spent the payments on, but A4E, an independent and impartial company, can help you with these things to make arranging your care as easy as possible.
When choosing who to provide your care it is vital that you consider all that is involved and decide on a service that is risk free, reliable and beneficial to you. If after time you felt that DP's were no longer of benefit to you, you could still contact your local authority and ask that they organise your care, on your behalf, once more.
Using the DP's scheme allows you to purchase care from any number of avenues, either from a friend or neighbour, an independent local care provider or you could choose to use one of the local authorities preferred providers also known as Approved Strategic Partners. It's up to you
